Please clarify your role with your site lead or a contact at your local mood disorders research clinic, e.g. your local PI for the Cohort study would be a good place to start.
If you are not sure who they are, please contact us.

We are currently developing a process to identiffy trainers, or potential trainers, at sites. Further updates will be provided in due course.

If you have completed facilitated training, we will confirm attendance; for on-demand training, we will confirm completion; for video rating tasks, we will confirm IRR.
None of the above is a confirmation of competency.
Competency is scale-dependent and multi-factorial: the amount of observation, administration practice and scoring practice required depends on the complexity of the scale and the individual rater’s confidence, experience and skills.
Central oversight on this for the entire network is not possible, therefore it is up to sites to determine competency, just as it would be a PI responsibility to sign off on delegation logs for a trial.
Rater development is an ongoing process and any training should ideally be complemented by:
observing/shadowing multiple instances of administration
co-rating patients presenting with various degrees of low mood
practicing with colleagues/lived-experience groups with iterative feedback.
-
Observation and practice could be done with the support of a doctor or research nurse at your site who has used these scales and/or is currently using them.
We encourage sites to implement these activites locally if possible, as this will ensure longeivity in upskilling raters beyond the lifespan of the Mood Disorders network.
We may have the capacity to provide centralised opportunities for observation and practice in the future, however this is not a priority at present.
