The Rater Programme
Background
The Rater Programme is an initiative within the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration Mission Mood Disorders Workstream.
The primary purpose is to collate a registry of rater capacity and capabilities in commonly used mood disorder scales, and establish network-wide inter-rater reliability (IRR). This registry will be included in a network dossier to showcase our expertise, and help to reduce trial start-up times by serving as a precursory feasibility assessment.
To achieve and demonstrate a high network-wide standard of mood disorder assessments, we also provide training to upskill novice raters. We have developed a comprehensive training pathway and learning resources that are informed by lived-experience as well as research practice.
A skilled workforce of research practitioners with IRR spanning the UK will strengthen our position for industry research collaborations, and in turn improve public access to novel treatments for Mood Disorders. By participating in the Rater Programme, you have the opportunity to contribute to this important work.
Your Involvement
We need experienced and novice raters to complete Rater Registration, because the programme is about more than upskilling new researchers.
After registration, we review each submission to determine existing scale competencies and identify where training is needed for that individual. Raters are then be able to access training, IRR tasks and peer support. This provides the opportunity to hone and showcase skills as a well-rounded researcher.
On a site-level, this standardised approach enables us to collate information on your existing rater competencies, provide training for novice raters and help establish IRR across your research workforce. We can provide this information back to sites to support grant applications, feasibility assessments and discussions with industry partners by demonstrating your research capabilities.
