Who we are

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC) Mission Rater Programme (RP) supports research staff who use rating scales in network and affiliate sites.

Our legal basis

We process information about registered raters because it is necessary to perform a task in the public interest: supporting the quality and delivery of research in the NHS (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e)).

What information we collect

  • Your name, work email address and employer site.

  • Your role, whether it is clinical, and your clinical profession if applicable.

  • Whether you support PROMs, use CROMs or both.

  • Your trial experience, including study names, dates and whether they were industry-funded.

  • Your previous training and experience on rating scales.

  • Records of training you complete, your inter-rater reliability (IRR) ratings and results, and certificates issued to you.

  • Any comments, requests or feedback that you send us.

  • We do not collect special category data, such as information about your health or ethnicity.

How we use your information

  • To register you and recommend training based on your experience.

  • To give you access to the RP library.

  • To issue certificates.

  • To provide feedback on IRR tasks.

  • To keep a register of rater capability across the network.

  • To produce site and network reports on rater capacity and capability.

  • To evaluate and improve the RP, using anonymised data.

What we share and who we share it with

  • Identifiable data is shared with senior colleagues at your site, for their oversight and to support staff development locally.

  • Data shared outside your site is anonymised, reported in aggregate form only.

How long we store your data

Your data will be stored for the duration of the RP and for up to 10 years afterwards, in line with the NHS Records Management Code of Practice.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access your information;

  • ask us to correct it;

  • object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict its use;

  • in some circumstances, ask us to delete it.

To make a request, or to object to your data being used, contact us. If you object, information already included in previous data reporting activities cannot be removed.
